Benguet, Philippines – Three miners are now safe after being trapped for hours inside a mine tunnel on Friday, July 22, in Itogon, Benguet, the Philippine National Police Cordillera reported.

The three individuals were currently working inside a tunnel in Sitio Pukis, Upper Nay-en, Ampucao when a part of it collapsed around 4:00 in the afternoon due to heavy rains.

The eroded soil blocked the entrance of the shaft. One of the three individuals is said to be a minor.

Itogon police, along with the Philex Mines rescue team and volunteer civilians, rescued the miners at 12:50 PM on July 23, nearly 21 hours since they were trapped inside the tunnel.

The three were brought to Sto. Niño Philex Hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, they were all safe and didn’t sustain any injuries during the 21 hours of being trapped underground.
