31-year-old man in Kalinga nabbed for transporting P15.6M marijuana

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 31-year-old man fell into the hands of authorities after he was caught at a checkpoint set up by police in Barangay Dupag, Tabuk City transporting marijuana morning of September 2.


Kalinga police said they were tipped off regarding a white L300 van with plate number UCH 862 ferrying marijuana from Tinglayan. They immediately set up a checkpoint in the area to inspect the vehicle.


The inspection resulted in the seizure of 126 dried marijuana bricks and 4 dried marijuana tubular packs. They likewise confiscated the van used by the suspect in transporting the contraband.

Marijuana items recovered from the suspect weighed 130,000 grams, with an estimated value of P15,600,000.


The inventory of the seized pieces of evidence was conducted onsite in the presence of the suspect and witnessed by two barangay officials of Dupag, the Department of Justice -Tabuk, and media representatives.


After the inventory, the suspect from Bugnay, Tinglayan whose name was withheld by the police was brought to the Tabuk City Police Station.


The suspect will be facing a case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022. Specifically, the provision on the illegal transport of prohibited drugs shall be filed against him.

In a statement, Police Provincial Director Peter M. Tagtag Jr. commended the efforts of the operating units acknowledging their patience and discipline which resulted in the confiscation of the marijuana items and the arrest of the suspect.


They were further reminded to strictly observe the police operational procedure and the rule on the Chain of Custody of evidence.
