32 barangays in Kalinga at risk to landslides, flooding


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Thirty-two (32) barangays in six municipalities in the province are likely to experience landslides and flooding based on the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) rainfall model shown on Sunday, October 10 2021.


Based on the Mines and Geosciences Bureau's (MGB) updated list, the identified areas susceptible to landslides and flooding are 32 barangays in Kalinga from the municipalities of Balbalan, Pasil, Lubuagan, Rizal, Pinukpuk and Tinglayan.


No barangay in the City of Tabuk was included on the list.

In Balbalan, the barangays of Balbalasang, Pantikian and Talalang, according to data, are expected to experience high incidents of landslide, Barangay Tawang will likely experience debris fall, moderate and high landslides, while Mabaca is likely to suffer from moderate and high landslides.


In terms of flooding, Tawang is reported to be susceptible to moderate high flooding, while Balbalasang is susceptible to high and very high flooding.


For Pinukpuk, identified to experience high flooding are Malagnat and Taggay, moderate and high landslides for Barangay Ammacian, while debris flow, moderate and high landslides are expected to transpire in Aciga. Moderate and high flooding are also possible in said barangays.

Meantime, for Rizal, moderate and high landslides are said to be probable in Babalag East, Liwan East, Romualdez, San Pascual and Santor barangays. For flooding, San Quintin will expect moderate and high flooding, high and very high flooding in Romualdez, and moderate and high flooding in Babalag East, Liwan East and San Pascual.


For Pasil, moderate, high and very high landslides are possible in Colayo, while high and very high landslides are possible in Galdang. For flooding, high and very high flooding is also probable in Colayo.


In Lubuagan, Uma Del Norte shall likely to experience moderate, high and very high landslides and high flooding.


Tinglayan, Butbut, Dananao, Loccong, Ngibat, Tulgao West, and Tulgao East are seen as possible places for high landslides to occur, Belong-Man-ubal, Old Tinglayan, Poblacion, Sumadel 1 and Buscalan for moderate and high landslide, Basao for debris flow, moderate and high landslide and Bugnay – debris flow and high landslide.

The barangays of Butbut, Dananao, Loccong, Old Tinglayan, Poblacion and Sumadel I are possible areas for high flooding.


Meantime, the Civil Defense- Cordillera is now urging the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned in all municipalities in the region to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.


For persons living in areas identified to be high or highly susceptible to these hazards, they are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials.
