32-yr.-old soldier kills own wife, mother-in-law, and a driver inside military camp in Gamu, Isabela

Gamu, Isabela - What was supposed to be an ordinary day at the 5th Infantry "Star" Division camp in Gamu, Isabela, turned into a scene of devastation after a soldier opened fire inside the camp on Thursday, October 10, killing three individuals.

The gunman behind the shooting, Sgt. Mark Angelo Ajel, 32, isn’t just any perpetrator - he's one of their own, a member of the Philippine Army who is currently stationed at the 503rd Infantry Brigade in Calanan, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

The victims, meanwhile, were his own wife, Erlinda Ajel, his mother-in-law, Lolita Ramos, and a man identified to be Rolando Amaba.

An initial report from Gamu PNP disclosed that the victims were on board a Hyundai Grace van when they entered the camp.

At around 2:00 pm, a soldier who was on duty at that time heard gunfire inside the van. The soldier immediately called his comrade to check what was happening there.

Upon reaching the vehicle, the two soldiers saw Mark Angelo with a gun. They immediately disarmed and handcuffed him as they saw the victims inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds.

As a result of the incident, Rolando Amaba, who was later identified as the driver of the van, died on the spot, while the wife and the mother-in-law were transported to the hospital, but they also succumbed to their gunshot wounds.

At present, the suspect is in the custody of Gamu Police Station, while further investigations are being conducted to determine his motive behind the crime.
