Santa Marcela, Apayao- Following the disastrous effect of Super Typhoon Egay last July in the town, calamity intervention was provided for the affected families in the municipality of Santa Marcela through cash-for-work schemes.

This initiative, which has provided temporary employment, has alleviated the strain of difficulties of the identified severely typhoon-affected families in the locality.

Recently, some 375 beneficiaries received their wages for 10 working days, equivalent to P4,000 each or amounting to P1.5 million in total.

Facilitated through the joint force of SWAD -Apayao and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office(MSWDO), the payout activity brought substantial relief to the recipients' financial constraints, as they hadn't fully recovered from Egay's devastation to their sources of income.

The MSWDO conveyed that said adversely afflicted came from the 7 barangays namely San Mariano, Sipa, Imelda, Barocboc, Consuelo, Marcela, and San Carlos.

The beneficiaries were primarily tasked with doing cleanup drives, repairs of facilities, and providing other community services in their respective areas within their barangays.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit (Unit) along with the Sangguniang Bayan, pledged to continue working with the DSWD to provide prompt and timely assistance to individuals when a crisis occurs.

The cash-for-work program is a short-term employment opportunity of the country implemented through the DSWD to stabilize distressed/displaced individuals.
