39-yr.-old man drowns in Itogon swimming pool

Itogon, Benguet – A 39-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool in Itogon, Benguet on Tuesday, January 03, 2023.

He became the second victim of a drowning incident in the province this year, next to the 21-year-old miner Leoncio Joe Balag-ey Lang-ay who drowned in a waterfall in Poblacion, Sablan on Monday.

The latest victim was identified by police as Maximo Fagsao Keya, married, a resident of Fatima Village, Ucab, Itogon, and a native of Barangay Saclit, Sadanga, Mt. Province.

Initial investigation states Keya was intoxicated when he went swimming and drowned.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital upon retrieval but was declared dead on arrival.

His remains are now at Fatima Village in Ucab and will be transported to Saclit, Sadanga on Thursday, his relative informed.

Authorities reiterated their reminder for the public to remain cautious in times of outings for such gatherings not to end in tragedy.
