395 individuals in Ifugao receive P1.5M wage for planting trees, repairing water system


Ifugao, Philippines – Through a cash-for-work program that focuses on empowering communities to become disaster-resilient by combating the effects of climate change, 395 individuals in three municipalities in Ifugao were given temporary jobs and were paid a total of P1,580,000.

The pay-out was made last week, according to a press release by its implementing agency, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera, on Friday, Oct. 27.


This is under the DSWD’s Risk Resiliency Program: Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction (RRP-CCAM DRR).


Through the program, the recipients will not only be educated about the negative effects of climate change but also be motivated to take care of the environment.


Each beneficiary received P4,000 as compensation for their 10-day work.


Eight barangays in Kiangan, which have 35 recipients each, were tasked to plant trees. The same activity was likewise made by 40 beneficiaries from Lawig, Lamut.


As instructed, 2,000 seedlings composed of mixed varieties were planted in each barangay, bringing a total of 18,000 seedlings planted by the beneficiaries.


Meanwhile, 40 individuals from Barangay Banga in Lagawe also completed their assigned work, the rehabilitation and construction of a water system within their barangay.
