Tabuk City, Kalinga – In just a day, four civilians who were asked by a communist group to keep some firearms and explosives safe appeared before the soldiers and surrendered the items they possessed.

In a press release by the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, the surrender transpired on Monday, Oct. 16.

Two civilians from Villa Cielo, Buguey, were said to be the first ones to surrender a capto-type improvised explosive device (IED).

According to the civilians, the said explosive was given to them by ‘Alyas Marvin’ of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley (KRCV).

Another individual likewise surrendered two IEDs along with an improvised shotgun with ammunition.

Said person, whose identity was kept secret, was a former supporter of KRCV and even served as a runner for the group.

Meanwhile, another civilian from Alucao, Sta. Teresita submitted a caliber 45 pistol with ammunition and a magazine.

According to the civilians, they made the move because it was already high time for them to get away with the wrong belief that was imprinted on them by the communist group.

The 5th ID, on its part, said they are still open and ready to help any remaining rebels who want to get back to the fold of the government.
