4 coast guards missing after boat capsized in Cagayan River

Aparri, Cagayan – Four members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are now waiting to be rescued after they went missing following a supposed rescue operation near Aparri, Cagayan on Wednesday, July 26.

Philippine Coast Guard, in a press release, said the aluminum boat used by their personnel capsized in the Cagayan River due to strong winds and strong water currents brought by Super Typhoon Egay.

Accordingly, they were supposed to rescue seven crew members aboard a tugboat, M/Tug Iroquois 21 nautical miles from Appari, Cagayan when the incident happened.

A search and operation was quickly conducted to find the four rescuers and today, July 28, is the third day of said operation.

According to CGLt SG Miguel Angelo Gangan, Commander of PCG Station Cagayan, their three motor boats are already positioned at the Cagayan River in Camiguin Island, and other neighboring islands where the four may be located.

The PCG Aviation Force helicopter will also conduct an aerial search while the Tactical Operations Group of Region 02 conducts a SAR operation to speed up the search.

Meantime, no news as of yet about the status of the seven individuals on board a tugboat being searched by authorities.
