44 micropreneurs in Kalinga provided with over P.3M livelihood kits for enterprise expansion

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Some microentrepreneurs in Kalinga affected by various calamities and living in vulnerable communities will now be helped in growing their small businesses after receiving livelihood kits from the Department of Trade and Industry.


The awarding of said starter kits was made possible through the Livelihood Seeding Program—Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (LSP-NSB) of the agency.


Of the 44 beneficiaries, 35 received their kits on Tuesday, August 29, while nine others received theirs in a separate award ceremony last week.

Tabuk has the highest number of recipients (12), followed by Rizal with 8. For other towns, Pinukpuk and Lubuagan have 4 recipients each, Balbalan and Tinglayan, 12, and 2 each for Pasil and Tanudan.


Each recipient received assorted livelihood kits amounting to P8,000. Items given, meantime, are based on their request to the agency.


Recipients of the program are involved in food processing, handicraft making, coffee and cacao processing, textile manufacturing, and food servicing.


In an interview with Junefri Macaranas, Information Officer of DTI-Kalinga, he said the program prioritizes individuals or families of microenterprises affected by fire incidents and other calamities to restart their economic activities.


It likewise aims to provide livelihood opportunities for identified beneficiaries in areas considered priorities of the national government, such as Killed in Action/Wounded in Action (KIA/WIA) and the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

Awarding ceremony


During the recently-concluded awarding ceremony, DTI Kalinga Provincial Director Renie M. Ramos reiterated the importance of the program, saying it ‘aims to assist local businesses to recover and bounce back from the various natural and human-induced calamities they experienced.’


A previous recipient of the program was likewise given the opportunity to talk and narrate how the program helped her boost her business after receiving the same starter kits in 2021.


"The continued support of the DTI is really invaluable to us local business owners; these (livelihood kits) are just the start of their assistance to you. Take advantage of the services they will offer, which greatly benefit your businesses", she advised them.


To ensure that the starter kits will serve their purpose, DTI-Kalinga will monitor the progress of the beneficiaries' businesses.
