44-year-old farmer struck by lightning in Baggao, Cagayan


Baggao, Cagayan – A farmer died on the spot after he was struck by lightning in Nangalinan, Baggao afternoon of Thursday, July 14.


Ronald Palomares, 44, and a resident of San Jose, Baggao went to visit his rice field on said day when the incident took place.


Palomares went there to check whether his rice field was ready for the planting of rice seeds.


While at the area, heavy rain and thunderstorm started. Unfortunately, Palomares was struck by lightning.


A resident of said area saw the victim lying face down on his rice field and immediately informed the barangay officials, Bombo Radyo Tugueguerao reported.

Gilberto Respicio, the barangay captain of Nangilinan, was said to have notified police officers regarding the incident while he instructed residents not to go near the victim.


Palomares' body was later retrieved by responding police personnel.
