5 dead due to landslides in Baguio and Benguet

Baguio City, Philippines – Five people died while seven were hurt as heavy and incessant rains brought by Super Typhoon Egay triggered landslides in Baguio City and Buguias, Benguet Wednesday, July 26.


The fatalities in Buguias include Jasmine Tumpap Dulot, 12; Marjorie Dolorito Tumpap, 20; Camille Tumpap Dulot, 5; and Hosana Tumpap, 2.

Said individuals were killed after their house was buried in a landslide 5 a.m. of July 26. It was known later that a concrete riprap collapsed causing the slide.


They were found by rescuers in their home’s basement. Five others were rescued and were quickly ferried to the hospital.


They were named by authorities as Julius Tumpap, 61; Marlyn Dolorito Tumpap, 52; Ezekiel Tumpap Torio, 8; Milkezedic Tumpap Torio, 6, and Janielle Tumpap Dulot, 8.


Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy in Bakakeng Central, Baguio City died after he was trapped in his room following a landslide that covered their house 10 a.m. of said date.


He was dead upon arrival in a hospital in the city.


His parents, a 59-year-old construction worker and a 48-year-old housewife were saved by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO)-Police Station 10 (Marcos Highway) and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Task Force Group Baguio.
