5 Cordilleran women to compete in Nat'l Innovation Challenge


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Five talented women entrepreneurs will take to the national stage their craftsmanship as they represent the Cordillera region in the innovation challenge come June 23 and 24, 2023 in Manila.


Nine participants from various provinces showcased their extraordinary skills and business acumen in the pitching competition held on June 07, announced by the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera.


From the initial number, five wowed the panel of judges. Two of which are from Kalinga, and one each from Benguet, Apayao, and Mt. Province.

National qualifiers are RIPPLES Soaps and Scents of Kalinga, Kalinga Indigenous Weavers Association Etnika Handicrafts, Northern Roots Session Groceries Group Inc. of Benguet, Agguimangan Agro-Eco Tourism Farm of Apayao, and Inglayan Di Ibila RIC Farmers Association Inc. of Mt. Province.


The women-led shops received a P50,000 cash grant to support their entrepreneurial venture.


To further refine their business strategies, fine-tune their innovation, and amplify their impact, the five will undergo a comprehensive and intensive mentoring program to be spearheaded by TARAKI-CAR, DOST-CAR, DOST PCIEERD, and VILGRO Philippines, said the agency in a press release.


“The success achieved by these talented entrepreneurs highlights the thriving spirit of innovation and resilience within the Cordillera region. Their visionary ideas and groundbreaking initiatives exemplify the potential for growth and economic development that can be unlocked through women empowerment and entrepreneurship,” regional DOST added.


Grand prizes amounting to P100,000 and P5 million grants for their innovative project await winners in the highly anticipated National Innovation Challenge.
