5-yr-old girl from Abra is bronze medalist in 2022 Nat’l New Face of the Year taekwondo tournament

Abra, Philippines – A 5-year-old taekwondo athlete from Abra emerged as a bronze medalist in the Toddler Category of the 2022 National New Face of the Year Taekwondo Championships held on October 22-23 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.


The event was said to have been organized in a bid to highlight the progress and development of young taekwondo practitioners as they trade styles and techniques against unfamiliar sparring opponents in the two-day competition supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Milo.

Ksiezniczka Zigne P. Esperanza is just among the 21 Abreños who were able to snatch medals in the national tournament, the Office of Abra Governor announced.


Esperanza is a student of One Mind Taekwondo Training Center (OMTTC). Accordingly, it is her first time to compete at the national level, but was able to rank 3rd among the 11 total players in the category.


Meanwhile, three other athletes in the same province won gold medals, five got silver while 13 settled as bronze medalists.


Among the gold medalists are Jairus Bersalona, Solomon Zeus Saluquen, and Jessie Grace Daoaten.


Elaisha Faye Bisquera, Dandy Berth Bisquera, Chelsey Queen Angelih Bugtong, Denart Borillo, and Klein Raphiel Scott Punzalan seized silver medals in their own category.
