50-year-old man killed in Isabela hit-and-run

Echague, Isabela – A 50-year-old man died after he was hit by a black Toyota Vios evening of Sunday, October 9, 2022 while crossing the provincial road of Barangay Pangal Norte, Echague, Isabela.

Echague Police Station, through 92.9 Brigada News Cauayan City, relayed the victim was about to go home after drinking with friends when the incident happened.

The report said he was crossing the national road when he was hit by the vehicle, throwing him off near a drainage canal and incurring serious injuries.

The residents who witnessed the incident said they saw the black Toyota Vios immediately flee from the area after the tragic incident.

The driver was said to have been speeding while traversing Barangay Ipil of Echague. This could be observed by the several pieces of the damaged parts of the vehicle. Police also saw skid marks at the scene of the accident.

The victim was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Police identified the victim as Jerry Tomas, 50, married, and a resident of said barangay.

As of this writing, authorities are conducting a hot pursuit operation to catch the suspect.
