51-yr.-old farmer survives hacking incident in Sta. Marcela, Apayao

Santa Marcela, Apayao – A 51-year-old farmer survived, although wounded, in a bolo attack by his drinking buddy at Purok 6, Nueva, Santa Marcela.


The hacking incident, as relayed by Sta. Marcela police transpired around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.


Accordingly, the victim and the suspect were at the former’s house, having a drinking spree, when a heated argument ensued.

During the altercation, the suspect pulled a bolo from his waist and started hacking the victim in various parts of his body.


Sta. Marcela Chief of Police, PCapt. Ginabel Dao-inon, in an interview, disclosed that the victim, identified as Ernesto Visara Acob, suffered hack wounds on his face, nape, and hands.


Although he was wounded, the victim fought back and struck the suspect with a piece of wood.


They even reached a rice field five meters away from the victim’s house during the fight.


There and then, the victim lost his strength due to his hack wounds, while the suspect fled the scene and headed to a neighbor’s house, where he was chased and arrested.


He is now in the custody of Sta. Marcela police and will be facing attempted homicide charges.


At the crime scene, the bolo used in the hacking was recovered by police.


The victim, in the meantime, was ferried to a nearby health facility and is now in stable condition.
