53-yr.old man drowns at quarry site in Piat, Cagayan

Piat, Cagayan – A tragic incident transpired in Barangay Baung, Piat, Cagayan after a 53-year-old man lost his life in a drowning accident on Monday, April 22.

Police revealed the victim was among those who went to the Ferry River on said day, particularly at a quarry site to wash some pots and other kitchen utensils used during their relative’s wedding.

After washing, the victim identified as Mario Lucas decided to swim but later found himself in distress in a deeper portion of the river despite his familiarity in swimming.

He failed to resurface minutes later urging his nephews to come to his aid.

While efforts to rescue him were swift, he was not able to reach the hospital alive and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nuestra Senora de Piat Hospital.

Since he was a good swimmer, it was speculated that he might have suffered from hypertension due to the hot weather.
