54-yr.-old barangay official in Baggao, Cagayan hangs self due to severe illness

Baggao, Cagayan – A 54-year-old barangay official in Baggao, Cagayan committed suicide by hanging himself on a mango tree at the back of their house on Monday, January 8.

The incident added to the 57 suicides logged by Cagayan in 2022, the highest number of suicide cases recorded in the province in a year.

The latest victim whose name was withheld was discovered by his wife lifeless at around 4:00 in the morning of said day.

The wife believes her husband committed suicide to end his suffering from illnesses.

Her husband, she relayed, found out that he had heart disease and high blood, thus the need for him to undergo medication.

She added financial difficulties related to his check up and medicine could have also triggered him to commit such act.

Meantime, the victim’s body was sent home for his wake following a post-mortem examination.
