59-yr.-old miner drowns in Ambalanga River, Benguet

Itogon, Benguet - A family in Itogon, Benguet is now mourning the loss of their loved one who drowned in Ambalanga River in the afternoon of Thursday, October 10, 2024.

 

The deceased was a 59-year-old small-scale miner identified as Pablo Mariano Ciano, a resident of Sitio Ambolo, Barangay Poblacion, Itogon.

 

According to a report from the Itogon Municipal Police Station, as narrated to them by the victim’s son, Pablo left their house around 2:00 p.m. that day and went to the said river to put his mining equipment in a safe place.

 

Shortly after Pablo left their house, his son, Amor Panangwe Ciano, followed her dad, only to find out that Pablo was already floating in the water.

 

Amor immediately sought help from their neighbors, who rushed Pablo to the Itogon District Hospital, but the man was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

 

At present, Itogon police are currently conducting investigations to find out what caused the drowning incident.

 

It can be recalled that a 16-year-old boy also drowned in a river in the said province, particularly along the section of Lubas-Balili in La Trinidad last September 1.

 

It was reported that the boy drowned while he and other friends were celebrating the birthday of one them. To date, his body has not yet been recovered.
