6 Baguio employees fired over alleged P50M market fees corruption

Baguio City, Philippines - Six employees of the Baguio City Treasury Office have been fired this Friday, September 08, as they answer corruption allegations.

The six are accused of corrupting over P50 million worth of fees collected from the city’s public market.

On July 20 last year, the suspects were charged with criminal and administrative cases by the Baguio City Local Government for falsification of public documents and falsification by public officers.

It was found that they tampered with receipts of fees collected in the market.

Accordingly, the amount stated in the trader’s original receipt is lower than the duplicate copy they have submitted.

Aside from them, 10 other employees were also suspected of doing the same act and will be facing the same cases.

Meanwhile, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in his recent interview with local media, revealed that they are now investigating two more individuals following corruption allegations.

“Meron kaming minomonitor ngayon na dalawa, tinitignan namin kung totoo yong mga allegations laban sa kanila” he said.
