6 injured inP1.2B Sta. Maria – Cabagan bridge collapse

Isabela, Philippines – Six individuals were reportedly hurt after the 1.2 billion-worth Sta. Maria – Cabagan bridge in Isabela fell on Thursday night, February 27, 2025.

 

The super structure whose retro-fitting was recently completed collapsed after a dump truck ferrying102 tons of boulders, according to the Gross Vehicle Weight estimation of DPWH Region 2, crossed it.While only light vehicles were allowed to use the 990-meter infrastructure, the said truck was allowed by the flagman to pass through, especially that there was a dump truck which crossed the bridge first.

 

The driver who is a resident of Tabuk City fled the scene after the bridge gave in due to fear, but surrendered himself to the Cabagan police on February 28.

 

The incident which transpired around 8:30 p.m. left six individuals injured – five of them sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the Milagros Albano District Hospital while the other one who is described to be a minor and got seriously wounded was brought to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

 

Isabela Governor Rodito Albano, in his interview with the media, called on the public to wait for the investigation of the Department of Public Works and Highways to find out the real cause why the bridge collapsed.

 

The governor also mentioned he intends to reach out to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ask for immediate assistance to address the fallen infrastructure.
