Tragic loss: elderly man ends life amid insomnia battle in Cauayan City, Isabela

Cauayan City, Isabela - Insomnia is one of the most common health concerns among adults, according to studies, and this mental disorder led a 60-year-old man in Cauayan City, Isabela, to take his own life on Friday, February 23, 2024.

The deceased, identified as alias "Waldo," was unmarried and a resident of Barangay Turayong, Cauayan City.

According to police reports, it was the morning of Saturday, February 24, when Waldo’s sibling and niece headed to his house to bring him food and medicines.


Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Waldo hanging inside his room without upper clothes.

An investigation conducted disclosed that a nylon rope was used by the victim to end his own life.

When asked by police what might have caused the victim to harm himself, the victim’s relatives confessed that Waldo had been experiencing insomnia for six years and that he was taking sleeping pills for his condition.

They concluded that the victim could no longer cope with his sleep disorder, resulting in the unfortunate event of his self-inflicted passing.
