60-yr.-old woman buried alive in Banuae, Ifugao landslide

Banaue, Ifugao – An elderly woman died when a landslide occurred in Banuae, Ifugao on Monday, April 17, 2023.

The victim, according to her husband, went to their rice field but did not return home. He suspected that she was buried by a landslide at the rice terrace between Sitio Alatang and Sitio Itidong in Bocos village of Banaue.

With the help of the Banaue Municipal Police Station, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, barangay officials, and volunteers, the victim’s remains were retrieved at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18.

The landslide probably happened due to the softening of the soil caused by the heavy rainfall since Monday morning, Banaue police said.

The casualty was identified as Olivia Lumayong Naddul, 60, a resident of Sitio Itidong, Bocos. Her body was already brought home by authorities and family members.

The police and local officials reiterated their call for the public to remain cautious and stay at safe places at all times to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
