Sad news: car claims life of elderly biker in Naguilian, Isabela

Naguilian, Isabela - A 65-year-old man was unable to reach the hospital alive due to injuries sustained in an accident that occurred on Monday, February 19, 2024, in Naguilian, Isabela.

The deceased was identified as Nelson Aggarri, a farmer and resident of Barangay Mansibang, Naguilian.

Police reports disclosed that Aggarri was riding a bicycle on the evening of that day when a Toyota Hilux driven by Rodel Lopez, 34, crashed into his vehicle.

Lopez, who left the scene of the incident due to 'life threats', surrendered himself to the Reina Mercedes Police Station and was later transferred to the custody of Naguilian police.

When questioned by police, Lopez disclosed that he was on his way to Cauayan City when the incident occurred.

He narrated that Aggarri suddenly crossed the road in Barangay Palattao, causing him to collide with the victim's bicycle.

Due to the crash, Aggarri sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a hospital in the municipality by responding authorities. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the victim's family will no longer press charges against the suspect after both parties agreed to settle the matter.
