65-yr.old man taken by raging waters while crossing Abra River; found 3 days later

Tayum, Abra – A 65-year-old man who only wanted to visit his farm was swept away by the raging waters of Abra River on Saturday, August 3.


The incident transpired morning of said date but it was only 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, that his body was found.


Accordingly, the elderly, identified as Gilbert Barbero, decided to visit his farm that day. To reach his farm, he needed to cross the Abra River, particularly in Barangay Presentar, Lagangilang.


However, he failed to cross the river as he was swept away by its raging waters resulting in the drowning incident.


After being notified by citizens, BFP Lagangilang, Lagangilang MPS, MDRRMO Lagangilang and barangay officials conducted a search and rescue operation.


While previous attempts were unsuccessful, they finally recovered the body of the victim on Tuesday at Sitio Cabaroan,Tayum, Abra. His cadaver was seen by a resident near the area who later reported it to authorities.


It was known that that victim previously worked at the Provincial Agricultural Office of Abra.
