673 Kalinga farmers affected by El Nino provided emergency employment thru TUPAD

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Kalinga is among the provinces in Cordillera affected by the El Nino phenomenon.

 

Latest report from the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera showed that P51.14 million worth of crops in the province have been damaged due to the calamity.

 

Thus, to aid the affected farmers, an emergency employment has been initiated by the provincial government of Kalinga, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment and the Provincial Employment Service Office.


Through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, 673 beneficiaries are set to work for fifteen days with a P43o daily wage.

 

As cited by the province’s Information Office, first batch of the beneficiaries include farmers from Pinukpuk, Tabuk City, and Rizal.  They were already oriented on Friday, May 24, 2024.

 

The farmers were assigned to their respected municipalities and are expected to make an active contribution to their communities.

 

During the orientation, PESO OIC Ermilinda Wandag emphasized the importance of the TUPAD program, while expressing her gratitude to Governor James Edduba for his efforts in seeking funds from various national line agencies.

 

Meantime, the governor, represented by Attorney Priel Balnao, conveyed his message of hope and determination, assuring iKalingas that the provincial government unit will secure additional funding to expand the program's reach.
