68 couples in Balbalan exchange promises and ‘I Dos’ in Mass Wedding

Balbalan, Kalinga – Sixty-eight couples in Balbalan exchanged the sacred and lifetime vow of staying committed to each other this September 26 at the Balbalan Sports Center in Poblacion.

The event happened through the Mass Wedding initiated by the Balbalan Municipal Local Government Unit headed by Mayor Almar Malannag.

The couples who radiated in white exchanged vows and wedding bands before Mayor Malannag and Rev. Fr. Rocky May Bayauac of the Balbalan Catholic Mission. The 68 pairs were likewise accompanied by their respective family and sponsors.

After their marriage was solemnized, the couples were treated by the Balbalan LGU to a simple reception and program.

Mayor Malannag conveyed that the LGU pushed for the event, shouldering all the expenses, to allow couples to get married without thinking of the finances and to give an opportunity to those who have been married through customary laws or ‘palanus’ and those who have been living together to finally be legally bound by rings and a certificate of marriage.

Through the mass wedding, Malannag further said that the next generation will no longer have to struggle with their documents when they apply for jobs in the future because their parents are legally married.
