7 students injured after car plunges off ravine in Balbalan



Balbalan, Kalinga – Seven minors suffered from injuries while one miraculously did not get any scar when the white Tamaraw FX they were riding plunged off an 80-meter ravine in Balantoy, Balbalan on Tuesday, July 4.


The minors ages 15,16 and 17 are residents of Balinciagao Norte, Pasil and Balbalan Proper, Balbalan.

Police relayed through Station 1 Radio that the accident transpired while the minors were traversing the Abra-Kalinga Road particularly at Sitio Nawoy.


When they reached a curve part of the road in said area, the car overshot on the opposite lane and fell into the ravine.


A source said they came from Mt. Calvary in Barangay Salegseg of said town .


Investigation further revealed that the driver was over speeding which may have resulted in what police said a ‘self-inflicted accident’.


“Idi nag-conduct kami ti investigation ket actually nagpi-preno da kanu piman (ta) makita nga napupwersa diay, (ta) adda skid na (diay dalan)… ken ti maysa pay, napaspas da gamin,” Chief of Police P/Capt. Reygualdo Martinez told Station 1 Radio, in an interview.


Since he was not injured, one of the minors managed to climb up from the ravine and tell the community what had happened to them.


The community, barangay officials, and personnel of Balbalan police, Bureau of Fire Protection-Balbalan and the local government unit came to their aid immediately and ferried them to the hospital.


The students, who are now in stable condition, are expected to come out of the hospitals they were rushed to today, July 5.
