70-yr.-old man from Ifugao hacked by his brother in law

Isabela, Philippines – An elderly farmer from Ifugao was injured after his brother-in-law attacked him on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28 in San Mateo, Isabela.

The victim, Placido Ricafort, 70, resident of Alfonso Lista sustained hacked wounds on his arm, back, and finger.

Police investigation mentioned that the victim, while sitting past 4:00 p.m. in Barangay Sinamar Norte, San Mateo, was allegedly attacked by the suspect, Daniel Lucas, 63, with a ‘panabas’.

The wounded victim was brought to the hospital while the suspect who was described to be his brother-in-law reportedly left the crime scene. The latter, however, was arrested by the police authorities in a hot pursuit operation.

Lucas was brought to the custody of San Mateo police prior filing of appropriate charges. The victim, meantime, was in a stable condition and was already released from the hospital.

Investigators believe that the assault could have stemmed from the victim and suspect's argument over payment of wood and rice harvesting.
