Amulung, Cagayan - An elderly man was pronounced dead upon reaching a hospital after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving crashed into an iron barrier along the road in Barangay La Suerte, Amulung, Cagayan.

The casualty, as reported by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, was identified by the Amulung police as Erwin, a 75-year-old resident of Nueva Vizcaya.

According to the investigation conducted by the Amulung Municipal Police Station, Erwin was with his four passengers when they met the tragic accident on March 24, 2025. The identities of the passengers were not disclosed by the police.

While they were traveling on said road, as narrated by the passengers, Erwin suddenly lost control of the vehicle which led to the crash. The vehicle rammed straight into the iron road barrier.

The accident did not stop there, as the force of the impact caused the SUV to veer into the opposite lane, where it hit a parked tricycle and a motorcycle.

Authorities also found out the SUV’s airbags failed to deploy during the accident. With that, the driver’s head banged onto the steering wheel.

Despite efforts to save the old man’s life, he was unable to survive the crash due to severe injuries sustained from the impact.

Fortunately, his passengers suffered only minor injuries and are now in a stable condition.
