75-yr.-old man in Cagayan dies in hospital after motorcycle crash

Gonzaga, Cagayan – The suspect in another road crash that resulted in the death of a 75-year-old man in Cagayan was found intoxicated by police.

The road crash transpired Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

While the victim was immediately brought to a hospital, he eventually succumbed to various injuries he sustained in the accident.

The deceased is identified as Leoncio Patubo Viernes, married, and a resident of Gonzaga, Cagayan.

Accordingly, it was in the afternoon of said day when Viernes was traversing the national road along Barangay Pateng, Gonzaga when the incident transpired.

While he was on board his motorcycle, Viernes was suddenly struck by Jonathan Segui Garcia who was then riding a Honda Click 150.

Garcia, when asked by the police, said that he overtook a car he was following, causing him to hit the victim’s vehicle.

Police investigation further revealed that he was under the influence of alcoholic drinks.

Due to the impact of the collision, the victim sustained severe injuries to various parts of his body and was taken to a hospital by the responding authorities but he was later declared dead by the attending physician.

Garcia and the motorcycle involved in the incident are now in police custody for proper documentation and disposition.
