70-yr.-old widower in Isabela takes own life over illness

Isabela, Philippines – A 70-year-old widower dealing with an illness reportedly ended his own life on April 18 in Echague, Isabela.


The man residing in Barangay Villa Rey allegedly shot himself at noon on Tuesday, according to a police investigation cited by 104.9 XFM Santiago.

Prior to the incident, the man’s daughter went to his room at 12:30 p.m. to feed him and give him medicine.


Minutes after the daughter exited the house, she allegedly heard a gunshot sound prompting her to rush back to her dad’s room. There, she saw blood oozing from his father who was holding a Caliber 38.


The police mentioned in their initial investigation that the man could have been experiencing depression due to his underlying condition.


The firearm found from the widower was taken to police custody for proper disposition.
