8 cops, 1 non-uniformed personnel in Cagayan Valley dismissed from service over administrative charges

Cagayan, Philippines – Nine personnel of the Police Regional Office Cagayan Valley are no longer in service after being found guilty of administrative charges.

From July 1, 2016 to February 19, 2024, the Philippine National Police has dismissed a total of 7,420 cops from service.

Included in the list are eight police officers and a non-uniformed personnel (NUP) of Police Regional Office (PRO) 2 who were discharged since the assumption of Regional Director, PBGen. Christopher Birung in 2023.

According to PRO2, these nine were found guilty of grave misconduct, grave neglect of duty (Absent Without Official Leave), and conduct unbecoming an officer.

In a statement, PBGen. Birung asserted that the dismissal of these nine personnel showed they are serious in implementing the intensified internal cleansing program of the PNP to ensure a more accountable and credible organization.

"This is a clear manifestation that we are serious in our desire to cleanse our ranks in the PRO2 and we do not tolerate Valley Cops who violate the law and involve themselves in any irregularities and illegal activities," he was quoted saying.
