80-yr.-old farmer in Cagayan missing for almost two months, found in decomposed state

Cagayan, Philippines – A family in Tuguegarao City spent almost two months looking for their elderly member before finding him at a corn field over the weekend, but without life and already in decomposing state.

Pablo ‘Lolo Alu’ Cuarteros, 80, was reported missing on August 31, 2024. He was described to have left their house in Carig Norte around 10:00 a.m. of said day to look for his missing carabao.

The man who was with a walking stick failed to return home, prompting his family to look for him.

Some information stated that the 80-year-old was last seen in front of the Out-Patient Department Building of the Cagayan Valley Medical Center asking for food around 9:00 p.m. of September 01.

On October 19, almost two months since he left home, the octogenarian was found by farmers at a secluded and grassy part of a corn field, just after the under construction bypass road in Carig Norte.

According to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Cuarteros’ decomposed body was recognized through the color of his clothes, bag, cap, and his walking stick.

A funeral service was arranged for the 80-year-old at his house.
