Ifugao recorded 88 teen-related birth in 2023 first quarter

Ifugao, Philippines – Eighty-eight teenagers have given birth in Ifugao for the first quarter of 2023, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA) Ifugao.

One out of 10 live births in the country was from adolescent mothers, making the Philippines the second country with the highest teenage pregnancy rate among ASEAN states as mentioned by the United Nations.

The PSA, however, monitored a decline in adolescent pregnancy in the Philippines over the past five years as shown by the 8.6 percent teenage pregnancy rate in 2017 to 5.4 percent in 2022.

In Ifugao, PSA registered 1,305 births for the first three months of the year. Of the figure, 88 were born from mothers who are 13 – 19 years old.

The agency cited Lamut as the ‘municipality displaying the highest number of teenage mothers in the province’.

The data further revealed that March was the month with the ‘highest concentration of teenage mothers’ in Ifugao.

Meantime, the PSA Ifugao also disclosed they documented 335 marriages during the first quarter of the year while they recorded 263 deaths.
