9-yr-old Baguio City archer wins 6 gold medals in 2022 Batang Pinoy Nat’l Championships

Baguio City, Philippines – A nine-year-old athlete from Baguio City captured a total of 6 gold medals in an amazing performance in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy National Championships in Vigan City on December 17 – 22.

The win was a rare occasion for a young archer, but the win proves that it is possible.

Jathniel Caleb Fernandez won in the 10, 15, 20, 30 meters, 30 meters FITA and Olympic rounds in the archery event, contributing to six to the 31 gold medals Baguio City got from the national championships.

Jathniel’s mom, Cristina, relayed to Baguio City Public Information Office that the young archer was first exposed to archery when he was accompanying his brothers to their trainings when he was just six years old.

The nine-year-old third grader was said to have only started his serious training in June this year while gearing up for the World Archery Phils. Competition last September. The young archer brought home a gold medal as well in the said competition.
