91 BHWs in Santa Marcela undergo 3-day training for professional development

Santa Marcela, Apayao - Ninety-one (91) Barangay Health Workers in Santa Marcela are currently undergoing a three-day training of Facilitators for DOH BHW Reference Manual at the EKB gymnasium at the LGU compound.


Said training, which runs from November 5-7 ,2024, is spearheaded by the Provincial Department of Health Office-Apayao. It is aimed at helping BHWs add to their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and align them with current health policies and programs. Additionally, it equips them with the know-how to implement community health interventions.

Marilyn Aman, Midwife III (PHO) Josephine Sungag, Rural Health Midwife II are the facilitators. The team, during the first day, underscored the importance of said training in capacitating BHWs for the delivery of quality health care in town.


The barangay Health Workers (BHWs) are considered one of the unsung heroes in  communities, contributing significantly to the provision of health services, health information, and community organizing, especially in underserved areas.


The R.A 7883 or the Baranggay Health Workers' Benefits and Incentives Act of 1995, mandates the DOH to ensure that BHWs have access to resources and opportunities that will accelerate their personal and professional development.
