96 disadvantaged workers in Balbalan get paid for short-term jobs

Balbalan, Kalinga – The Department of Labor and Employment and concerned agencies in Kalinga paid P384,000 in cash aid to 96 yBalbalan worker-beneficiaries under the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers” (TUPAD) program.

The assistance was earlier requested by Governor James Edduba from the Office of Senator Loren Legarda which granted a P2 million fund for the 412 marginalized workers in Pasil, Balbalan and Lubuagan.

The fund was downloaded to the DOLE which holds the master list of target grantees.

In Balbalan, 96 vulnerable workers from barangays Balbalan Proper, Poswoy and Maling each received a daily wage of P400 for the 10-day manual labor they rendered in their respective villages.

Governor Edduba, along with Mayor Almar Malannag, Senior Labor Employment Officer Lourdes Canseco Lourdes Canseco of DOLE-Kalinga, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Ermilinda Wandag, among other provincial and local personnel, led the distribution of P4,000 each to the recipients.

This is the second TUPAD payout in town this year. The first, according to the Municipal Information Office, was after Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra of DOLE-Cordillera granted Mayor Malannag’s request for a P2 million fund for the same program.

Acknowledging the aid from the Office of Legarda, as well as the continued support of the provincial government and the national line agencies for the betterment of his constituents, Malannag told worker-beneficiaries to remain optimistic as the government is doing its best for their advancement.
