Attorney Errol Comafay Jr., one of the lawyer public figures in Kalinga, recently participated in the ‘Know your candidate” forum set up by the Tabuk City Information Office, which aims to introduce candidates to the people.
Many only know Comafay as the lawyer with a packed daily schedule – from aiding clients’ at the office to representing people in court or moving anywhere to respond to requests – one would think he does not have enough time on his hands for his personal life.
Comafay who is fondly called ‘Atty. Pasiking’ by the public is a former dean and instructor of the College of Law of the Kalinga State University. Known as a strong anti-corruption advocate, he ran for public office in 2022 but landed at number 11, only one rank away from becoming a city legislator.
While he lost the 2022 elections, he was given the chance to serve as Lov. (lovable) Acting Councilor of Tabuk City for six months in 2023 where he passed 3 resolutions, two of them urging the conduct of feasibility studies for public library and cultural museum, while the other one is for the naming of all streets and pathways in the city.
During the ‘Know Your Candidate Forum,’the soon-to-be-married lawyer said he wakes up at 6:00 in the morning, and before starting the day, he first greets and kisses his ‘darling’ good morning.
“Ti umuna nga aramidek ket i-good morning ko ni darling ko. Ket uray haanak pay nga nag-toothbrush, i-kiss ko isuna, ket siyempre kasapulan ah nga i-embrace tayo ni darling tayo,” the smitten attorney revealed.
Comafay then proceeds to get ready as he has to be at his law office before 8:00 a.m.
“Haan nak pay ketdin ag-breakfast en, diay iti biyag iti abogado. Haan kami ag-breakfast en ta diay un-unaen mi nga talaga ket diay problema iti kliyente mi,”
When he has hearings, he stays in court from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., then go back to his firm to attend to other clients seeking legal assistance. He sometimes stays at work until 6:00 p.m. and heads out to do his social obligations after the said hour.
The busy lawyer also allots time for his laundry and ironing his clothes, Saturdays for the former and then his Sunday for the latter after he attends mass.
Challenges that Comes with His Profession
Comafay, during the forum, shared some challenges that he faced with his profession. As a lawyer, he said people sometimes perceive them as magicians where they are expected to solve individuals’ concerns.
“Ti abogado, iti panagkita da ket sika iti mangsolbar iti amin nga problema da. Nu umay kada kami iti kliyente, iti problema da ket nakaun-unugen. Adda ta en iti naperdi iti pampamilya da, nagaapa iti agkakabsat, nagaapa en iti agkakasinsin,” he said, stressing the importance of seeking legal assistance earlier.
As for him being a law instructor, the challenge he said is dealing with students who keep failing their subjects even after enrolling them several times, adding he could pass them only if teachers rate persistence and not academic excellence.
“Ti karigatan idiay ket nu kasanu ibagam idiay estudyante nga ammum lang garuden nga awan met lang plano na nga agadal ket sumsumrek pay laeng. Adu gamin iti estudyante nga pumapasok na walang nalalaman at lumalabas nang walang natututunan,” he explained.
Comafay is one of those who filed their Certificate of Candidacy for the May 2025 elections.
