Abandoned baby nursed by cop dies in Isabela

Isabela, Philippines – An abandoned baby who was breastfed by a police died shortly after she was taken to the intensive care unit over the weekend.

A couple found the newborn inside a shoe box in a rice field in Barangay Dalena, San Pablo, Isabela on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Upon receiving the report, Police Master Sergeant Riva Jean Rodriguez at Police Corporal Jearnhey Taguinod immediately responded.

Rodriguez did not hesitate to nourish the child by breastfeeding.

The baby was then brought to Cagayan Valley Medical Center but later died.

Chief of San Pablo Police Station, PCapt. Rouel Meña said the newborn might have died due to poor treatment, especially so that he was born prematurely.

It was later found out that the baby was not abandoned but was handed over to the said couple by the child’s mother after her partner refused to support her and the child.
