ABRA AMBUSH: 2 killed, 1 injured after Pidigan mayoralty candidate’s convoy got sprayed with bullets

Pidigan, Abra - Two individuals were killed while another was injured after unidentified assailants ambushed the convoy of Pidigan, Abra mayoralty candidate Artemio “Billy Boy” Donato Jr. on February 28 in Barangay Poblacion, Pilar, Abra. 

 

The casualties were identified as Froilan Bisares Bueno, barangay chairman of Quillat, Langiden, Abra, and Kevin Bisares Bueno, a driver. 

 

Froilan Bueno sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and died while being treated at the hospital, while Kevin Bueno was killed on the spot due to a gunshot wound to his head.

 

The injured, meanwhile, is Sonny Bisares Bueno, who was wounded in the right leg and is currently recuperating at a hospital in Bangued. 

 

Fortunately, Artemio Donato, was unharmed from the shooting incident.

 

According to police reports obtained by the media, the mayoralty candidate’s group, on board of around 11 vehicles, was traveling from said barangay at around 4:40 p.m. of said day to the town of Villaviciosa when they were ambushed.

 

Based on the police's initial investigation, the gunmen were positioned on higher ground about 20 meters from the road. 

 

Further investigations are currently being done. Authorities have launched checkpoints and dragnet operations across municipal police stations to identify and apprehend the suspects.  

 

The mayoralty candidate has not yet issued any statement regarding the incident.
