Abra records 19 shooting incidents since January

Abra, Philippines – There have been 19 shooting incidents recorded in Abra for the first three months of the year, the latest victim was gunned down while he was sleeping on Thursday night, March 26.

Talking on the radio this Thursday, March 27, Abra Police Spokesperson, PLtCol. Daniel Pel-ey disclosed there are a total of 18 shooting incidents in the province since January 2025. However, just hours after his interview, another shooting transpired, adding a new case to the tally.

Based on police reports regarding the latest case, the 42-year-old victim was sleeping beside his live-in partner at their house in San Antonio, Bangued when he was shot to death. According to his partner, she woke up from sleep after hearing successive gunshot sounds and when she turned-over she saw her partner unresponsive with blood oozing from his head.

Just days ago before the latest killing, on March 25 and 26, two incidents were also recorded. The first involved a 59-year-old man who was shot dead while he was on his way to take a rest on Tuesday evening in Zone 3. The second was the killing of a teacher and a dentist, both gunned down at a coffee shop in Zone 6 on Wednesday.

Police are low morale

With these shooting incidents, Pel-ey admitted that the Abra police felt low morale, but they are taking this as a challenge to step up safety of the public.

“I, for one, low morale kasi doon sa mga insidente na nangyayari dito sa area naming, pero we take that [as a] challenge na we will do our part,” he said.

The spokesperson revealed that the police regional office added additional man power to help the authorities keep the public safe, particularly in Bangued.
