Aguinaldo LGU distributes P.5M fingerlings to 60 calamity-affected fisherfolks

Aguinaldo, Ifugao – To help fisherfolks restore their fish production after experiencing losses due to various calamities that hit the municipality, the local government unit, through its Municipal Agricultural Office, conducted a dispersal of sex reverse Tilapia fingerlings on November 3, 2022.

The distribution held in Barangay Posnaan benefited 16 fisherfolks in Aguinaldo receiving 105,600 fingerlings through the LGU’s rehabilitation program intended for them.


Recipients are from the barangays of Monggayang, Ubao, Halag and Posnaan.


Last month, 27 fisherfolks also benefited from the program in which, 106,600 fingerlings were received by them.


In total, 60 fisherfolks in Aguinaldo town were already assisted through the said program this 2022.


In an interview, Noah Ittangon of the Municipal Agricultural Office relayed the LGU allocated an amount of P500,000 this year to fund the program.


“The program aims to address affected production projects of beneficiaries as they are covered by the rehabilitation program of the LGU. P500,000 fund [was allocated] as approved on the Project Procurement Management Plan (PPMP) of Aguinaldo LGU.


He added the distribution of the fingerlings is done yearly but will depend on reports submitted by calamity-affected fisherfolks.

Calamity-affected individuals, as explained by Ittangon, are those victims of natural calamity such as landslides due to heavy rain and strong earthquakes, and fish kills due to climate change.


To make sure that the program is implemented properly, monthly monitoring of the project is being conducted by the Municipal Agriculture Office.
