Aguinaldo Mayor expresses all-out support for 13th “Lenong” Festival


Aguinaldo, Ifugao – As the people of Ifugao gathered on Wednesday, August 09, to celebrate the 13th “Lenong” (Peace) Festival, Aguinaldo Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. threw his support behind the commemoration.


The festival was declared through Provincial Ordinance No. 2014-29 as a special event in the province to honor the heroism and sacrifices of many people who fought for liberty, and to instill the history lesson and evils of war in the minds and hearts of the young generation.

Mayor Chilagan Jr. took to social media to express Aguinaldo’s support for this year’s observance.


Said town particularly lent a hand in facilitating one of the main activities dubbed as “Bike for Peace, a 46-kilometer Funbike and Race” which started in Ubao, Aguinaldo.


Bikers from Ifugao and nearby provinces got to experience the ‘beautiful landscape through the long, winding road stretching up into the mountains’ of barangays Chalalo, Monggayang, Awayan, Damag, Jacmal, Taang and Talite for the Aguinaldo leg, then to Mayoyao town, leading to the finish line at the summit of Mt. Nagchajan.


Winners of the four categories, including 23 years old and below; 24 - 38 years old; 38 years old and above; and the female category, were awarded with cash prizes and certificates in a program at Mt. Nagchajan Plaza.

Among the awardees include Tabuk cyclist Jemuel Loyd Aggalao who was hailed as the champion for 23 years old and below category, and others.


Brigadier General Santiago Enginco, the Commander of the 503rd Infantry Brigade, who represented Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Romeo S. Brawner Jr., graced the wreath-laying ceremony and the 21-gun salute performed in honor of the bravery of those who joined the fight for liberty against the Japanese Imperial forces back in World War II.
