Apayao concludes selection of players after three-day Provincial Athletic Meet 2024


Luna, Apayao – Following a three-day battle among disciplined and determined athletes from seven municipalities, Apayao Province now has its best athletes chosen for the region’s largest sporting event, which the province will host this year.

 

The Provincial Athletic Meet, attended by around 2,800 student-athletes, served as the platform for selecting players for the upcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet.

 

With their impressive performance, the municipality of Pudtol was proclaimed the champion during the event, reclaiming their title from 2022. The municipality hauled in 99 gold medals, 111 silver medals, and 78 bronze medals.

 

Some of the sports where the team triumphed were dance sports, girls' volleyball, elementary basketball, gymnastics, arnis, and taekwondo, among others.

 

Meanwhile, Luna delegations regained their first runner-up finish from 2022, bringing home 82 gold, 67 silver, and 70 bronze medals. Following closely is the municipality of Flora, with 53 gold, 48 silver, and 43 bronze.

 

For Calanasan, they were proclaimed the fourth placer with 44 gold, 36 silver, and 42 bronze medals, while Conner secured the fifth place with 27 gold, 28 silver, and 36 bronze.


 Santa Marcela and Kabugao followed, with the former hauling 25 gold, 24 silver, and 25 bronze medals, while the latter clinched 9 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze.

 

Special awards were likewise given, with Pudtol winning the Best in Saludo Award, Kabugao winning the Best in Delegation Uniform Award, and Santa Marcela winning the Most Disciplined Delegation.

 

With the province’s first runner-up finish during the CARAA meet in 2019, the province is now determined to step up as they aim for the top spot in the largest gathering of athletes across the Cordillera Region.
