Apayao gears up for Cordillera Month 2023 hosting

Apayao, Philippines – Apayao province will leave no stone unturned for the success of the month-long 36th Cordillera Month anniversary celebration which it will host in July this year.

The province will be joined by the Committee for the Indigenous Peoples Concerns (CIPC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC), chaired by Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples headed by Regional Director, Atty. Atanacio Addog, in hosting events and activities.

Abra was supposed to be the host province for this year’s celebration but is still recovering from the impact of the devastating earthquake that jolted the area in July 2022.

“RDC Chairman and Apayao Governor Elias Bulut Jr. has accepted and was very much willing to host this year’s Cordillera Month celebration,” stated RDC Vice Chair and Regional Director of National Economic and Development Authority – Cordillera, Susan Sumbeling thru the official public information arm of the government in the region.

Hosting the event, Bulut Jr. said, is a chance for Apayao to showcase its rich cultural heritage as well as boost its eco-tourism destinations. In 2015, the locality hosted the same celebration.

This 2023, the series of activities will center on the theme, “Celebrating One Resilient, Diverse, and Inclusive (CORDI) Journey towards Autonomy.”

During its first quarter meeting on March 9, the RDC initially approved the Work and Financial Plan for the celebration.

As part of the event, the local government units and national line agencies will again be beating the symbolic “unity gong” to sound off renewed call towards self-governance.

Also among the approved activities is the search for the Mr. and Miss Cordillera Youth Ambassadors which Apayao first introduced as Dayag ti Cordillera in 2015.

Further, there will be webinars, Kapihan media forums, and information education communication campaign programs.
