Apayao micro-entrepreneurs upgrade coffee production

Conner, Apayao – Coffee production in Conner, Apayao will now be increased, following the Training on Quality Standard and Introduction to Coffee Cupping and Grading attended by 15 coffee producers and processors of said town.


The activity held on November 29-30, 2022 in Barangay Malama was participated by individuals from the barangays of Guinamgamman, Malama, and Sacpil in the municipality of Conner.

Said training is under the Provincial Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Council (PMSMEDC) through the Department of Trade and Industry- Apayao.


It aims to establish the proper way of producing and processing coffee to upscale the quality of coffee products and thereby increase the income for the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).


Masako Okada from Kape Bantay Coffee Farm in Ambiong, La Trinidad shared her expertise and knowledge in coffee green grading to cupping. She also explained to the participants the need to produce their own coffee brand.

During the training, the participants were provided the opportunity to taste different varieties of coffee to determine their different origins. The coffee producers also learned the 3 ways to pre-process coffee: the natural process, wet process, and honey process.


A hands-on workshop was also done by the participants for the green grading activity.


Further, by-products of coffee that can produce other products such as bread, wine, yeast, and green tea were introduced to the participants to maximize resources.
