Apayao PLGU awards P2.2M to 2024 ‘Rescuelympics’ champs

Pudtol, Apayao – As one of Apayao’s 29th Founding Anniversary highlights, the Rescuelympics was held anew, this time at the Dacao Dam in Lower Maton, Pudtol, with Kabugao town hailed as the champion.

The event was held on Monday, February 12, 2024.

The Rescuelympics event aims to find the fastest team executing proper rescuing techniques for drowning victims, boat handling and operation, proper packing of victims using a spine board and bandage, proper handling of an ambulance, including its preliminaries, and the bucket relay.

Participants comprised trained rescuers and government personnel from the seven towns of the province.

As the fastest team to complete their tasks, Kabugao received P50,000 from the provincial government, and similar to last year’s event, the office of Congressman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang added P20,000. Other teams also received an additional P20,000 from the same office.

In addition to Kabugao teams’ bounty, they also received an additional P15,000 for being the team that performed the quickest in knot-tying, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and fire suppression.

They were also awarded 1 unit of a 36" heavy-duty chainsaw, 22 spine boards (1 for each barangay), 1 radio base, and 5 handheld radios.

Emerging as the first runner-up is Pudtol, securing P60,000 as the overall prize, a 5kVa Portable Generator Set, 22 spine boards, 1 radio base, and 5 handheld radios.

Meanwhile, for their second runner-up finish, the Flora team was granted a P50,000 bounty, a community kitchen package, 16 spine boards, 1 radio base, and 5 handheld radios as well.

The consolation prize winners, in the meantime, brought home P40,000 each, with Luna securing an additional P10,000 for their performance in the packing and question-and-answer segment of the time-based event.

Calanasan, on the other hand, was awarded an additional P5,000 for being the most disciplined team.

“All of them received a DJI Mavicpro, a drone set, and plus training package worth $285,000,” PDRRMO Apayao said.

The overall prize for this year’s Rescuelympics, they added, amounted to P2.2 million.
