Gov't and yApayaos shoulder P.6M hospital bill of college student

Updated: Jul 8, 2023

Apayao, Philippines – A mom will do everything for her son, but for a utility worker in Apayao, she didn’t have to carry the entire burden by herself as the yApayaos and other stakeholders got her covered.

Yolly Bonggay has been working at the Provincial Government of Apayao for years when she had to seek help from Governor Elias Bulut Jr., Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang, and her colleagues for her child’s hospitalization this June 2023.

Yolly’s son, Reyvin who is currently a freshman student at the Apayao State College – Conner had to be subjected to surgery last month. He’s been suffering from a damaged spinal cord which he sustained from the road accident he got involved in last 2021.

The mom, in spite of not having enough resources, didn’t think twice to have her son get the medical intervention he needs.

As reported by the Apayao Provincial Information Office, Reyvin was at risk of losing his ability to walk should he not get operated.

While Reyvin’s surgery turned out successful, Yolly had to pay around P600,000 for her son’s hospitalization.

The provincial government and the office of the congresswoman didn’t let the mother down as they provided P200,000 from the PLGU budget; P357,000 from Malasakit fund; P25,000 from Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; and additional financial assistance given by the PLGU employees who initiated a donation box for the cause.

"Dakkel nga tulong iti naited iti PGA kadakami, kangrunaan ti anak mi nga naopera. Nu awan da Cong. Leah Bulut-Begtang Ken Gov. Elias Bulut, haan ko ammo nu kasano kami makabayad iti nagdakkel nga hospital bills mi," Yolly was quoted saying.

Reyvin is currently recovering at their home in Kabugao.
