Luna, Apayao - The provincial government of Apayao has gained national recognition for its outstanding contribution to the implementation of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF)-Seed Program of the Department of Agriculture.
RCEF - Seed Program, a national government initiative, aims to provide free seeds and other agricultural aid to rice farmers in the country during both dry and wet seasons.
Assessing the LGUs in the country in the implementation of said program, the DA - PhilRice conducted the 2023 Annual Seed and Extension Programs Review on February 6, 2024, in Muñoz City, Nueva Ecija.
Following the agency’s assessment, Apayao was named the most outstanding implementing province in Luzon in 2023 under the small category, surpassing 77 other provinces.
This signifies the province’s commitment to providing agricultural support to its local rice farmers.
Aside from the PLGU, the local government unit of Santa Marcela was also recognized as the most outstanding LGU under the medium-scale category.
Other LGUs in the Cordillera region that received the same award in their respective categories were Bauko in Mt. Province and Lamut in Ifugao.
